Peugeot Expert Review

Much in the same way that the Peugeot Partner is very similar in many ways to the Citroen Berlingo, or the Peugeot Boxer was a rebadged Fiat Ducato, the Peugeot Expert is essentially the same vehicle as the Citroen Jumpy. Starting to see a link here between the French vehicle manufacturers? It's all about showing some Gallic solidarity!

When you strip away all the branding, the Expert is essentially just sporting a different badge to its French cousin the Jumpy.

There are such minor differences and nuances between most of these models, it all boils down to personal preferences at the minutiae, the special extra features each one has, or which one you think drives better according to your specific needs.

Born in 1995

Despite currently being in its 28th year, the Peugeot Expert (as well as the Citroen Jumpy) was given a facelift in March 2004, before being replaced by a new second generation model in January 2007.

The redesigned models again shared the same design and engineering, with subtle trim changes between each brand, just keeping the two vans separate.

Another upgrade in 2012

The second generation received a small facelift in February 2012, and from July 2013, the Japanese manufacturer Toyota, was so impressed with the Peugeot Expert that it also got involved on the act, pressing ahead with the sale of a rebadged version called the Toyota ProAce, a very common name to anyone who knows about vans on British roads.

The 2016 Geneva motor show

If you've never heard of the Geneva Motor Show, it is an independent, impartial, non-profit foundation based in Geneva, Switzerland, and has no political affiliation.

It's considered one of the most prestigious and influential events in the automotive world, so it was with some pride, that at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Citroen, Peugeot and Toyota revealed their latest generation of their respective vans.

It was right here at this very location, in 2016, that this new generation of vans became more contemporary, and the Citroen and Peugeot models gained new names for the passenger versions: Citroen SpaceTourer and Peugeot Traveller.

Another facelift and on into the future

In October 2019, the vans were given another facelift which introduced a new 2.0-litre EcoJet diesel engine which is 11% more fuel efficient than the older 1.6 litre and variable-geometry turbocharger for smoother engine performance at low speeds.

Some very subtle exterior changes included a revised front bumper and black plastic wing mirrors instead of painted ones.

On top of that, the interior received a updated steering wheel, textured crash pads on the dashboard, a new choice of interior trims, as well as a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto supported.

Going green

As with so many vehicle manufacturers, we all have an increased responsibility to go green, and make the world a better place concerning our carbon footprints.

As such, in 2019, Peugeot introduced the electric version of the Expert van, called e-Expert.

Compared to the conventional diesel versions, there are some cosmetic changes such as blanked-off grille, instrument cluster which includes a battery charge-level gauge and new graphics for it infotainment system.
